Description

Ca. 1880s W.H. Grindley Daffodil Pattern Brown & White Transferware Ironstone China with Printed Registration Diamond. No chips, cracks, crazing or other flaws unless noted by piece below. The serving pieces have thicker, heavier ironstone ceramics than the plate and bowl.
The printed Maker's Mark incorporating a globe and steamer boat indicates circa 1880-1891. The use of the town name "TUNSTALL" instead of ENGLAND indicates a date prior to 1891.
W.H. Grindley (later Ltd.) was an e
arthenware manufacturer at the Newfield Pottery and then the Woodland Pottery, Tunstall, Stoke-on-Trent. The company was founded at the Newfield Pottery in 1880 by William Harry Grindley (principle partner) and Mr Turner (the '& Co.'). They produced Earthenware and Ironstone China - particularly for the Canadian, United States, South American and Australian markets. In 1891 the company moved to the Woodfield Pottery, Woodland Street, Tunstall. In 1908 Mr Grindley set up The Grindley Hotel Ware Co.
