British Pattern 1885 horse bit

French military horse bit?
You are bidding on a Antique Horse or Large Pony Bit which I believe to be an old military bit or possibly a cavalry officer's horse's bit from the war era. It is a VERY heavy, very high quality bit with lots of details that shows a lot of age. The mouthpiece of this bit is approximately 4" wide. The sides of the bit have a heavy highly detailed brass ( I believe it is brass) crown piece securely attached firmly to bit. It is the shape of a crown and has what I believe to be French? writing encircling it. The overall length of the bit measures almost 7" long! It has a solid rod across the base of the shanks. I've owned it for over 25 plus years and purchased it from an antique dealer that acquired it with a very large civil war collection at the time. I do not know the age, but this is NOT a reproduction.
