    Description

David Bowie & Mick Ronson print - Russ Gibb Collection.
This is a reprint of a famous photo by Mick Rock of David Bowie & Mick Ronson.  It is a black & white reprint 9 1/2 x just over 7.  There is some ink marks in the margin - see photos.  The original was signed by Mick Rock.
    About the image
David Bowie as Ziggy Stardust performing what has been called "guitar fellatio" with Mick Ronson during a performance of their Ziggy Stardust Tour at the Oxford Town Hall (
Oxford Town Hall is a public building in St Aldate's Street) in central Oxford, England. It is both the seat of Oxford City Council and a venue for public meetings, entertainment and other events. It is also includes the Museum of Oxford.
in June of 1972. Bowie had planned on doing something unusual - taking the cue from Jimi Hendrix playing his guitar with his teeth - and told Mick Ronson to just keep going, no matter what he did on stage.
Mick Rock was ready in the wings when it happened and printed the photograph that same night after the show. The next morning he brought it to Bowie who wrote on it in Tippex (White-Out), “Thanx to all our people for making Ziggy. I love you. Bowie x.” They ran it as a full-page ad in the July 15 issue of
    Melody Maker
    .
David Bowie kneels in front of Mick Ronson and mimes playing his guitar with his teeth as they perform on stage on the Ziggy Stardust tour, Earls Court Arena, London, May 12, 1973.
Guitarist, arranger and songwriter Mick Ronson, who died in 1993 of liver cancer, is best known as David Bowie’s guitarist from the Spiders from Mars band, but he is a major factor in how Bowie went from Major Tom to Ziggy Stardust, and beyond. Bowie’s mix of avant garde and rock would still have blasted him into the musical stratosphere, but Ronson established ground control.
